In 2024, Teleperformance started moving large numbers of workers and recruiting new ones for an Apple project. Several colleagues were forced to leave projects they had been working on for years. Others were even recently fired, losing permanent contracts, only to be rehired a week later with contracts of just a few months.
In most cases, colleagues entering this project were not properly informed that it was a ‘test’ project of uncertain duration. Under these pretenses, very few would have accepted such a job offer, especially if it required them to leave more stable jobs and suddenly start working from the office.
Now, after just a few months of running the project, with some colleagues hired as recently as October, Teleperformance has announced that after November 15th, about 100 workers will no longer have a job in the project. This obviously puts all workers in a very difficult position, especially those whose legal residency status in the country depends on employment due to the special purpose visa scheme. For the remaining employees, the only guaranteed work date is December 31st; after that, “nobody knows”!
In a meeting following this announcement, project managers had the audacity to tell workers how grateful they should be for the supposedly favorable conditions in the project, despite their imminent dismissal being announced for November 15th just days prior. *It is time to put an end to this exploitation!* Our union denounces these unacceptable practices of Teleperformance and puts forward the following demands to ensure that NO LAYOFFS take place and that the company respects the rights of colleagues whose department is being closed:
**WE DEMAND:**
– The company guarantees the renewal of contracts for all colleagues continuing under equivalent hours and salaries.
– The company guarantees that no contracts for colleagues with special purpose visas will be terminated or suspended.
– Reinstatement of the permanent contracts of colleagues unjustly dismissed to join this project.
We urge everyone to participate in the strike on November 19th and 20th, in solidarity with the colleagues whose dismissal was announced. We strengthen the struggle for collective agreements to put a definitive end to practices that prioritize profits over our lives! Our struggle is just, and together we will win!
