As part of the initiatives to build international solidarity in the framework of the decisions of our last General Assembly, Alexandra Liberi, Dep. General Secretary and George Krasadakis, President of the Chania Department had the honor to hold an online bilateral meeting with the SINTTAV Board Members Ze Abrantes, from TP Portugal and colleague, Fernando Patrício.
During this meeting we had the opportunity to exchange information about the workers conditions in the two biggest TP seats in Europe and the world, finding many similarities but we also exchanged ideas about the overcoming of challenges in the union organizing.Interesting facts that consern us a lot is that in TP Portugal all workers are hired under Teleperformance contracts and are turned into open-ended contracts after 3 years which shows that one of our key demands as SETEP is more than logical and plausible.
In addition, workers who are layed off while living in TP accommodation, based on the law, are given weeks before evacuating the premises, providing a more humane approach in the already difficult condition of an unemployed worker who is asked to evacuate immediately in Chania.
The low salaries, the improvement of working conditions and the signing of a collective agreement remain common ground of demands for both our unions.
We discussed about the need to form real workers alliances of class-oriented unions who can bring tangible results with an organized and decisive fight and we have committed to increase the communication and solidarity network for bringing internationalist solidarity to its true colors.
