EVERYONE TO THE STRIKE DEMONSTRATION OF THE TRADE UNIONS
IN ATHENS, AT PROPYLAEA, AT 10.30 AM and wherever the trade unions call throughout Greece
The massive participation in the strike on October 1 and the universal condemnation of the bill by workers at Teleperformance as well sent a clear message of rejection of the bill on the 13th hour workday and “flexibility”.
The large strikes and massive demonstrations brought to the surface the enormous anger that overwhelms our people from the consequences of the government’s anti-labor policy. From the enormous inflation that is robbing us of our income, to the increasingly dire situation in the public health system, to the auctions and evictions that are crippling our families, to the exorbitant cost of education. From the hundreds of deaths and injuries in the workplace. Our people’s outrage is growing over our country’s involvement in the slaughter of war, over the exorbitantly expensive military equipment we pay for out of the state budget, at the same time as we are told that there is no money for our salaries, for health and education. From the genocide being carried out in Gaza by the murderous state of Israel. From the repression that is intensifying in our country and internationally against anyone who resists, as was evident in the recent attack on the solidarity flotilla.
Now we must take an even bigger step. We must decisively strengthen the organization of workers in the workplace. We must sound the counterattack. We must escalate our struggle to withdraw this anti-labor monstrosity, which was inspired and drafted directly by employer associations. We must pave the way for asserting and satisfying our needs.
The Board of Teleperformance Workers’ Union has decided to participate in the strike called by the Federation of Private Employees of Greece (OIYE) and the Piraeus Labor Center (EKP), which covers all our colleagues throughout Greece, to join the strike.
The government and big employers, implementing EU directives, are promoting the idea that working 13 hours a day is modern, timely, and beneficial for workers! For them, it is modern to destroy, to have no free time, and all this for the sake of increasing the profits of large monopolies. For them, it is normal to increase working hours to the point of physical exhaustion and squeeze workers’ incomes to the point of survival, to cut resources for health, education, welfare, and at the same time giving billions to their profits and the war slaughterhouses they are preparing. They call it the “right” of workers to leave for work without knowing if they will return home, because with 13-hour workdays, it is obvious that no health and safety measures are in place.
In the 21st century, the struggle for reduced and stable workday, for a 7-hour, 5-day, 35-hour week, is more relevant than ever! We demand real wage raises through signing a collective labor agreements so that no worker needs to work 13 or 14 hours a day to make a living.
We join forces with the striking workers of Italy and France. With the dockworkers of all Europe who have decided that they will not become cogs in the war machine but will fight for labor and social rights.
We, the people, are right, we will have the last word, we will win!
We demand:
• The withdrawal of the new anti-labor bill
• 7-hour, 5-day, 35-hour work week, fixed daily working hours
• Real wage raises and immediate signing of a collective labour agreement based on our union’s proposal
• An immediate end to the slaughter of the Palestinian people. Freedom for Palestine!
